We Are Lewisham and we … are proud of our dynamic architecture
Lewisham is home to a range of unique architecture but how much time do we actually spend looking up and appreciating the buildings around us? Architecture is the art of designing buildings and other physical structures. This month we challenge you to look up and take notice of local architecture and celebrate the landscape of Lewisham.
Lewisham Lens Local Photographs
We have teamed up with Luke Agbaimoni the creator of Tube Mapper and local project Lewisham Lens, where he captures photographs focusing on the borough’s landmarks, art and architecture. We’d like to see which buildings you love in the area and are inviting you to share your photographs of local architecture. We want to know which buildings sum up Lewisham’s character and make you proud to live here. So tell us by sharing your photo and a line about why you chose that building.
Please use the hashtag #CreativeChallenge and tag @WeAreLewisham and @LewishamLens to share your photographs of local architecture on your social channels (excluding Tik Tok and Snapchat). Images will be shared on the We Are Lewisham and Lewisham Lens websites and social media channels. Please note, photographers retain copyright to any photographs entered but by submitting a photo with the above hashtag and handles, you’re granting Lewisham Council and Lewisham Lens permission to use their images in relation to the We Are Lewisham Creative Challenge.
Schools Architecture Project
Calling all Lewisham schools! As part of this month’s Creative Challenge, we are working with RIBA (The Royal Institute of British Architects) to bring you an exciting opportunity to enter a prize draw to win an in-depth experience with an architect. We think Lewisham’s landscape has a bright future ahead and who better than our young residents to help shape it? Click here to find out more.
Open House Festival 8-21 September
Open House Festival is a two-week celebration of London’s architecture, housing and neighbourhoods. The details of all the Lewisham buildings taking part in this year’s festival can be found on the handy map on the Open House Festival website including details of Tomorrow is Built Today at 13 Nubia Way, open on Sunday 25 September for visitors to find out more about Europe’s largest black-led community self-build for rent initiative. Tim Oshidi presents an oral history of Nubia Way as well as opening his home for the festival, as part of the In Living Memory project.
