We are Lewisham and we...can get crafty!

If our year as London Borough of Culture has taught us anything, it’s that the people of Lewisham are incredibly creative. From music to gardening, architecture to poetry, we’ve seen skills across all kinds of art forms.

Now it’s the turn of craft – that hands-on fun, where you can transform simple things into something amazing! Create your own origami bird and be part of something special. Your bird will then be part of a big public craft sculpture, which will celebrate Lewisham’s year as London Borough of Culture 2022.

Murmuration, 12 January – 17 February 2023

Murmuration explores themes of connection, migration, belonging, creativity and is a symbol of the people of Lewisham coming together.

Murmuration has been hand-crafted by the Lewisham community and curated by Annika Cox and Alice Burnhope for London Borough of Culture 2022 in partnership with Cockpit Arts.

Come to Forest Hill Library on 12 January to see Murmuration, a performance by Tyrone Isaac-Stuart, soundscapes, refreshments and a chance to be part of the special exhibition by following our guide to creating origami birds while surrounded by the borough’s creations.

Did you take part in one of December’s Creative Craft workshops? See if you can spot your work on display and bring your Hmong hats to wear proudly at this celebratory event. The exhibition will continue until 17 February.

Do you want to make your own origami bird to bring to the event? Just watch the short video below to see how you can make your bird.
