‘Visual art’ can mean lots of things like drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, street art and more. It can be found all around us.
Lewisham is known for its colourful, fun and thought-provoking street art. This month, we have a brand new artwork being unveiled on 3 billboards in Deptford High Street, Lewisham Way and Evelyn Street by internationally renowned artist Yinka Shonibare CBE.
In honour of this, we invite you to help create a borough-wide street-art piece by expressing yourself through chalk pavement art. We want you to represent the colours, patterns and energy you see on your local streets.
Collect a free pack of colourful chalk from your local library or in the We Are Lewisham tent at People’s Day on 16 July and get creative on the pavement near where you live.
This is a celebratory community artwork, please only use chalk and do not include anything that might be considered offensive to others.
We’d love to see what you create! Share your pavement art on social media tagging @WeAreLewisham #CreativeChallenge #Lewisham2022
