Get Involved

Our programme is created by and with the people of Lewisham.

Lewisham’s year as London Borough of Culture is about celebrating all of our neighbourhoods, communities and stories. The programme highlights are just the beginning. Read on for opportunities to get involved in the year.

We Are Lewisham is about coming together, collaborating and creating  incredible moments of celebration and change.

If you haven’t already got involved and you are a resident, run a community group, are an established or budding artist who wants to be part of the year  there will be loads of ways to get involved. We will soon be launching sign ups for the below.

Many We Are Lewisham events and projects are designed to be created alongside residents – such as Trinity Laban’s Hope For Justice and the world-famous Sun & Sea. From weekly sessions to one-off commitments there will be something for everyone however much or little you want to get involved.

Look out for a mailing list of opportunities to connect to the programme through our volunteering partner, Lewisham Local.

Our Creatives Futures programme will provide practical training and advice for young people interested in entering the creative industries.  Whether you are interested in craft and textiles or coding and game design there will be training and support to help you. For example, the Albany will be running a 6 week training course for young producers leading to real world opportunities programming live shows in 2022. . . watch this space.

There is so much local creative talent in our borough. Look out for upcoming opportunities in projects like Climate Home, Lewisham’s new pop-up creative space led by young people, and in the return of Lewisham People’s Day and our Revolution Through Music live music programme taking place across the year.

This year will create jobs from project management and event staff to Kickstarter roles for young people. We plan to have over 5000 hours of paid employment for young people at London Living Wage in Lewisham as part of our year as London Borough of Culture.

We’ve already funded many local projects through the Lewisham 2022 Creative Change Fund, and a further 75k will be available in January 2022 to enable local community groups and artists to lead and deliver on their own creative projects that align with We Are Lewisham.

We won’t be able to support every good project during 2022 but we are determined to ensuring we can support as many people and activities as possible.  There are opportunities for funding but we may also be able to help you find space, partners or other resources to help you get your own project off the ground.

Planning to put on a creative event next year? After the official start of the year on 28 January, we’ll be launching a process for you to register your event and become an official part of We Are Lewisham. Once approved, you’ll receive a We Are Lewisham tool-kit to brand up your event online.
