JUMP TO Events

Young people took centre stage at a new pop-up venue.

Climate Home was a sustainable, inclusive and accessible outdoor performance space, built and run by young people on the site of the underused Richard MacVicar Adventure Playground in Deptford. Led by youth collective SOUNDS LiKE CHAOS in partnership with the Albany and Youth First, young people worked with Practice Architecture to design and build the space.

During the summer holidays, they programmed a Festival of Action and Resistance, 6 weeks of events and activities including creative workshops, performances, adventure play, get togethers, art, music, talks, rest and more, exploring creativity, climate justice and the things that matter to young people now. Highlights included a sustainable fashion show, carnival, theatre double bill and much more.

"The fact that we as young people can have ideas and they can actually happen, that gives us a lot of hope for us in the future."

Climate Home Zine

SOUNDS LiKE CHAOS young associate and zine maker Zoe Thompson created a 'Climate Home Resident's Handbook' zine to capture all the work of the young people who built and visited the venue over the summer.

"This zine documents the vibrance of the space and all of the little parts that made it into the home it was. I want it to be a physical thing that someone can flick through and and feel as if they were having a conversation with the people who made it happen" - Zoe Thompson.

It features photos, quotes, poetry and illustrations from young people and is available to read for free online.
