Close To Home: The Mass Dance Event

JUMP TO Events

Hundreds of dancers came together for a spectacular performance exploring ideas of 'home'.

We took over the grounds of Sedgehill Academy in Bellingham for two days of performances, telling real-life stories of migration, community, activism, history and the people of Lewisham.

In a piece directed by Alleyne Dance, local community groups including Lewisham Mencap, primary and secondary school pupils, university students from IRIE! dance theatre and Trinity Laban, and individuals were joined by a cohort of professional dancers and the Wuntanara drummers for a truly inclusive and joyous exploration of what home and belonging mean to the residents of Lewisham.

Oral Histories

As part of this project, we interviewed participants about their understanding of home, belonging, and living in Lewisham's vibrant community.

This resulted in a 20 minute documentary and three audio interviews, which will be held in Goldsmiths, University of London's In Living Memory archive.
