Nadine Benjamin MBE returns to SongEasel to conclude our 2026 summer series with a jubilant programme paying homage to the 250th anniversary of American Independence. Expect Spirituals and classics by the likes of Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Aaron Copland paired with songs by African-American composers, alongside Andre Previn’s Honey & Rue, setting words by Pulitzer Prize winner and Nobel laureate Toni Morrison. This song cycle was described by the Chicago Tribune as moving "across a specifically black, urban, female landscape of experience".
“Thanks for such a wonderful concert. The singing & playing were so moving. What a gamut of emotions! So entertaining, it had everything - including humour, which is always good!”
