We are launching a pilot scheme for a creative/social meet up for older members of the LGBTQ+ community in SE London. These informal meet-ups are designed for older (55+) members of the LGBTQ+ community, but, other ages are welcome to join us to build an inter-generational dialogue and share ideas and thoughts.
This initiative is still in its early days and we are working on how best to meet the needs of the community. Following the closure of Opening Doors and Metro there is now an increased need for an informal, supportive space for the LGBTQ+ community, one that offers creative activity and a chance to meet new people in a non-commercial environment. Activities will range from movement and dance, to badge making or filmmaking sessions.
The focus of each session may change as we find the most suitable format that offers a flexible, relaxed environment where participants can take part in activities or simply have a cup of coffee and check out what’s going on.
These sessions are currently based in Greenwich, but participants come from across South East and East London, including Lewisham. We are looking into the possibility of taking sessions to other spaces across SE London.
