Brockley Rise Adult Education Centre, 2 Brockley Rise, SE23 1PR
Step into our welcoming, vintage darkroom and discover how early photographic traditions are being reimagined through today’s growing interest in sustainable, low-impact techniques on this 6 week course.
Many of the processes explored in this course, including cyanotypes and anthotypes, date back to the 19th century, yet are finding fresh relevance among contemporary photographers seeking creative, environmentally conscious alternatives to conventional methods.
Throughout the session, you’ll experiment with plant-based toners, coffee and tea developers, natural dyes, and chemigrams, uncovering how everyday materials can produce beautifully expressive and often unexpected results.
The emphasis is on curiosity and hands-on discovery rather than perfection. You’ll be encouraged to test ideas, observe outcomes, take notes, and embrace the unpredictability of these alternative processes.
Cost: £146.50 (full fee), £90.25 (reduced)
Time and date: 20 May - 1 July 1pm-3:30pm
