Discover the craft of paper-cut art in this free Uchiwa (Japanese paper fan) workshop for families and teenagers!
Participants will learn traditional paper-cutting techniques to decorate their own fan, with two design choices: create a classic, traditional Japanese paper-cut pattern, or tap into Japan's popular concert trend where fans design Uchiwa to show love for their favourite musicians, anime characters, and celebrities.
If you'd like to make a character fan, please bring printed images of your favourite icons to use in your design.
Young children must be accompanied by an adult.
This is freen workshop with all the materials provided but booking is required.
Uchiwa Making - Japanese Paper Fan Decoration is a hands-on workshop in which participants decorate a traditional Japanese paper fan using Japanese-style paper-cut techniques. Aya will also share how Uchiwa are used in contemporary Japanese culture including at events and concerts as a way of showing support, connecting traditional craft to living practice.
