Deptford X is one of the UK's longest-running visual arts festivals. From 1999-2023, we ran a free annual festival with hundreds of artists to locate art in everyday spaces – in the streets, artist-led spaces, art institutions, libraries and other public buildings, shops, cafés and restaurants.
The festival has developed an international reputation for showcasing some of the most exciting contemporary artists alongside emerging artists to engage with our diverse audiences. Previous artists include Ruth Beale, Chila Kumari Singh Burman, Sonya Dyer, Evan Ifekoya, Nnena Kalu, Juliana Kasumu, Hew Locke, Harold Offeh, Yinka Shonibare, Bob and Roberta Smith, Mark Titchner and Spencer Tunick, and Gray Wielebinski with HRH and Holly Blakey.
Relaunched as a biennial festival in July 2025, with projects in-between, we also plan to provide advice, mentoring and resources for visual artists and act as a connector for Lewisham’s visual art ecosystem, artist-led groups and galleries.
