Fun Palaces is a UK-wide organisation, based in The Albany In Deptford.
A Fun Palace is a free event made by local people for their own community, inspired by Joan Littlewood. At Fun Palaces people come together to share their skills, passions and interests, and to show the world just how packed full of genius their community is! Whether that’s art, science, sports, technology, history, crafts and more.
Absolutely anyone can make a Fun Palace. No experience needed.
They can happen anywhere! Fun Palaces have previously happened in libraries, theatres, community centres, gardens, swimming pools, sports centres, and more.
They can happen at any time, but most events happen on the Fun Palaces Weekend of Action, which is the first weekend of October each year.
People make Fun Palaces for lots of reasons, they may want to get to know their neighbours better, build community or do something fun with the people nearby. When you make a Fun Palace, you join thousands of people across the UK who choose to show off the brilliance of their community.
Fun Palaces Makers from across the UK share how they celebrated the 12th annual Fun Palaces Weekend. And what it meant to them and their communities.
