The vision of The Bear is to be a home in the heart of Deptford where people can grow, feel safe, be creative and take responsibility for our local and global community.
Our history stretches back over 180 years in the Deptford community, working to alleviate poverty, isolation, inequality, hardship, homelessness and sickness by nurturing, sustaining and growing community-led projects.
In our new (nearly finished) building, we have hosted film festivals, community events, large scale meals and even a Christmas market. Our Bear Cubs toddler group have run sessions there and we currently host a weekly Cooking with English class.
The Deptford Ragged Trust, the charitable trust of The Bear Church, offers a place of refuge, learning, worship and community to local people in South East London.
Our new building on Frankham St is a multi-use community space and provides socially affordable accommodation for rent for 33 young people who are homeless or have a severe housing need.
